"High protein" is printed on half the snack shelf now — usually meaning 8g per 100g of fried something. Here's a ranked list of genuinely high-protein vegan snacks available in India, with real numbers per 100g.
1. Roasted edamame — ~46g protein
The current king of plant-protein snacking. Young soybeans, dry-roasted till crunchy. It's a complete protein (all 9 essential amino acids) and out-scores almonds, peanuts and paneer per gram. Ours has exactly two ingredients: edamame and sea salt.
2. Roasted bean mixes — ~44g protein
Blends of roasted soybean, black bean and edamame. Slightly nuttier and more varied than plain edamame, nearly identical protein. See our Protein Beans Mix.
3. Peanuts, roasted — ~26g protein
The old reliable. Excellent value; just watch the fried-and-salted versions where oil doubles the calories. Dry-roasted is the move.
4. Pumpkin seeds — ~30g protein
Protein plus zinc and magnesium — minerals most Indian diets run short on. A handful of raw pumpkin seeds is one of the most nutrient-dense snacks per rupee.
5. Almonds — ~21g protein
Great fats, vitamin E, decent protein. The classic for a reason — but per handful, edamame gives you about double the protein at fewer calories.
6. Roasted chana — ~20g protein
Cheap and everywhere. Carb-heavy compared to the beans above, and an incomplete protein — but still miles better than fried namkeen.
What to avoid
"Protein" chips and most protein bars: check the label — many deliver less protein per 100g than plain peanuts, with maida, palm oil and sugar syrups making up the difference.
Building a snack rotation
Our honest suggestion: edamame or bean mix for the protein backbone, pumpkin seeds for minerals, a trail mix for variety. That's precisely the combination in our Daily Wellness Starter Pack.
